This is the thirty-fifth in a series of verse-by-verse expositions of the book of Revelation. This message was delivered at Hillcrest Baptist Church on the morning of January 3, 2016. This message deals with the necessity of patience and faith while enduring trials. This post contains an audio recording of my message, along with my sermon notes. Please note that the sermon notes are not necessarily a full transcript.

SERMON AUDIO:

Rev. 13:6-10

SERMON NOTES:

vv.6-7:
Halfway through the tribulation is where the true colors of the anti-christ begin to show. This is the point at which he declares himself to be the messiah.

  • 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4
  • Daniel 7:25

V.8:
Those who are written in the Book of Life will never worship the beast, for Christ has sealed the redemption of His elect forever.

  • Jude 1

The anti-christ can never take away one’s salvation. However, the unsaved will worship the anti-christ by default.

  • Luke 11:23
  • John 8:44

There is no middle ground, and those not written in the book will be cast into hell at the great white throne.

V.9:
It is imperative that one hears this gospel message, because that is the foundation of faith.

  • Romans 10:17

V.10:
This is a call for believers to endure persecution, as God has called some to endure. Patience and faith are necessary to endure these trials.

  • James 1:2-6

The trying of our faith builds patience. Patience, wisdom and faith are the key characteristics necessary for enduring trials and temptations Patience is probably the most difficult for the majority of Believers.

  • We preach it, but do we set the example?
  • We preach it, but we are scared to pray for it.
  • James 1:3-4

We will be much more patient if we don’t worry about tomorrow. God provides for our needs daily (one day at a time). Jesus instructed us to pray for our DAILY bread. We don’t need to persevere forever, just for today.

Wisdom comes by asking.

  • James 1:5

Wisdom comes from the word of God.

  • Proverbs 2:6

Godly wisdom is foolishness to the world.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:18,21

In Mathew 4, Jesus used Scripture to endure and resist trials and temptations. That IS wisdom. We should study and know the scripture.

Faith

  • Hebrews 11:1

Faith cannot be separated from salvation. You can’t have faith in something you don’t believe in. So. . . First and foremost, we are in need of salvation.

We should have faith in our deliverance, because deliverance will only come through faith.

  • James 1:6-7

We should have faith that:

  1. our trials are only temporary.
  2. there are always better days ahead.

The good news is that believers have a promise and a hope. We will be rewarded for our faith and perseverance.

  • James 1:12
  • Job 23:10

John 16:3 Sums it up.

We should seek patience, wisdom and faith in our trials, and we should use that experience to reach out to others.

  • Matthew 10:27
