Holy War

When many people think of 9/11, they think “holy war”,” but this is not what the Bible calls a holy war. What the United States is involved in now is a war of ideologies, none of which are particularly holy. They are man’s ideas, not God’s, and none of them have eternal value.

Proverbs 14:12 (NKJV)

12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Having said this, Christians ARE involved in a holy war. For the entire 6000 year history of earth, God’s people have been at the center of this battle. Adam and Eve were the first casualties. From Satan’s victory in the Garden of Eden came death, disease, pain, and disasters of all sorts. The perfect world that God had created was gone due to the curse of sin, and the ravages of this war.

The Battle is all around us, though we may not see it. Daniel gives us an insight into the unseen struggle.

Daniel 10:12–14 (NKJV)

12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words.

13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.

14 Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come.”

Here we see angels and demons battling to stop the revelation of God’s word.

You see, this war is not one to be fought with weapons. It is a “holy war” and must be fought in a holy manner. We are to put on the armor of God, pray, and wield the Sword of the Spirit:

Ephesians 6:11–20 (NKJV)

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,

20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Today, we see opposition to God’s word from many sources. We are told that any Gospel other than is revealed in the Bible is cursed, anyone who is a friend of the world is an enemy of God, and if you are not with Jesus, you are against Him:

Galatians 1:8 (NKJV)

8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

James 4:4 (NKJV)

4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Matthew 12:30 (NKJV)

30 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.

The list is long, any religion that does not profess Christ, is an enemy of God. All other religions (islam, hindu, buddhism, wicca, new age religions, etc.) work against God. The thing that Christians need to remember, is that the followers of these religions are people in need of a savior. Therefore; our goal is not the defeat the enemy, but to WIN the enemy. Christ died for them, as well as for us. Right now, they are enslaved by Satan, but Christ can set them free.

John 8:36 (NKJV)

36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

It is our job; however, to take the Gospel to them. We have no control over whether or not they accept it, but we MUST spread it.

Ezekiel 33:8–9 (NKJV)

8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand.

9 Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

Romans 10:14 (NKJV)

14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

Remember, don’t try to defeat the “enemy,” try to WIN them.
