What is Your World View?

What is a world view? Everyone has one, it determines the way we interpret life. It dictates how we view religion, history, science, and education in general. It shapes the way we react to challenges, problems, and blessings we receive in life.

Our world view is our collection of presuppositions, convictions, and values that we use for our basis for interpreting everything in life. Everyone has a worldview, no one is “neutral”, everyone starts with a bias.

There are essentially two world views:

  1. God made the world. This comes from revelation, and provides hope and a purpose in life.
  2. The world made itself. This comes from speculation, and provides no hope and no purpose

Both of these world views require faith, and that is an important concept to remember.

What is faith?

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV)
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

  • Faith = what can be believed, a state of certainty with regard to belief
  • Substance = confidence, being sure (It carries a sense of reality or assurance)
  • hope = a trusting, confident hope, an expectation (denotes a certainty).
  • Evidence = proof

This verse then, teaches us that faith provides the reality and proof of things which we can’t see directly.

Your world view (faith); therefore, determines how you interpret everything you learn in life. So, the question becomes, what is your world view? How do you interpret the things that you learn? Is the Bible your basis for interpreting what you learn, or do you rely on the doctrines of man? Remember, NOBODY is neutral in this respect.

Most (but not all) mainstream scientists, for example, start with an evolutionary worldview. They already believe that evolution is true. They; therefore, interpret scientific evidences and history in such a way as to support their belief in evolution. This also tends to affect moral judgments (racism, genocide, abortion, euthanasia, and the value of life in general). It provides no purpose, and no hope.

A Biblical world view, on the other hand, provides meaning, purpose, and hope. Before I continue, don’t get the idea that I am anti-science. What I am, is anti-evolution. When I speak of evolution, I am referring to the theory that life evolves from simple to complex. “Molecules to man” evolution, if you will. This type of evolution is not science at all, and should not be taught as such.

Now to get back on track. Why is God as the creator important?

  1. If God is the Creator, He has ownership.
  2. Ownership gives Him authority.
    • If He owns this creation, He makes the rules
    • If He owns us, He has the authority to judge us, and to save us.

These two world views are completely incompatible with one another. Evolution attacks the very foundation of Scripture. By removing God as the creator, all of His other attributes are taken away, as well. Some Christians have tried to merge the two, but that cannot be done without completely perverting the Scripture. If your foundation is compromised, your faith becomes weak. These are people who become unsure of their faith, and they cower every time their faith is challenged. We should; however, be able to defend our faith.

1 Peter 3:15 (NKJV)
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

Rather than defend the Gospel, those who compromise, try to reinterpret the Bible so that evolution fits into it. Because of this, the church has lost much of its authority and credibility.

In closing, lets look at the fruit of the Spirit as opposed to the fruits of evolution.

The fruit of the Spirit:

Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

The fruits of evolution:

Abortion, Drug abuse, Promiscuity, Slavery, Pornography, Genocide, Chauvinism, New-age beliefs, Euthanasia, Bestiality, Satanism, Homosexuality, Cannibalism, witchcraft, etc.

How do you interpret life?
